The REAL work of being an author

If you’re interested in becoming a writer, let me tell you that the writing is the easy part.  The hard part is the non-stop twenty-four/seven work of TELLING people you’re a writer.  I talk about my books all the time.  I consciously make an effort NOT to talk about them with friends and family.

Today I spent almost two hours on the phone talking to my editor, trying to build a marketing strategy for my book.  There is really nothing else I can do except “sit back and hope someone influential” finds it and enjoys it.

Or, go the same route everyone else goes.  Watch and enjoy a slow, not-so-steady climb up the charts and hope I don’t peak too soon.

I hate going the same route as everyone else.

This is the story of my life.

    • “I hate going the same route as everyone else.” – sounded like complaining yes…

I know you love what you do, and I know the time problems you have. You need a job that pays more/ or same, and work less hours… Mining is a good start… Australian Mining… 😉
