Part of the way I was able to quit my day job and be a full time author was to take my son Jack (Many of you know him as Max from What Zombies Fear) out of daycare. Even though I’ve technically been out of the old corporate job for almost two weeks, due to travel schedules and pre-arranged visits with grandparents, this is my first day home with Jack.
I’m really excited about this time with him. I’m excited to teach him things and watch him grow.
Today, our schedule is:
TV Time until 9:00
9:00 – 9:30 breakfast
9:30 – 10:00 painting
10:00 – 11:00 working on the house (Slave labor!)
11:00 – 1:00 picnic lunch at the park
1:00 – 2:00 science experiment (today we’re making a parachute for an army man)
2:00 – 3:00 free play with toys
3:00 – 4:30 movie time.
My goal is to get him excited about learning, and learn lots of things about the world around us. My fear is that it goes badly and we watch “My Little Pony” all day. The hard part is finding some time in the schedule to get some of my work done. I have an unfinished chapter of WZF, and a severe case of writers block. Blocks for me come when either a) I don’t like something I’ve written, or b) I don’t know which direction to take the story. In this case, it’s very clearly that I don’t like what I’ve written, so I’m pretty much going to wipe this chapter out and re-write it.
It’s going to be an adventure!
